The Kasaragod Police Station is started to functioning from 02.01.1865. The Govt. order to that effect is not available in the station records. As per the notification GO RT. No. 4960/88/Home Dtd. 29.09.1988 the Kasaragod Police Station started to functioning in the present building in building No. Kasaragod Municipality XXI/301 A.

There are different views regarding the origin of the name ‘Kasaragod’. Some scholars derives the name from Kasarakodu, the horn of the wild buffalo. Others are opine that the name is derived from Sanskrit word Kaasaara and Krodawhich would make Kasaragod “the land of lakes”. Yet another view is that the place as its name from the pods of Kasarkatree (Strychnos nux vomica) which is found everywhere in the region. Kasaragod is known as ‘Saptha Bhasaha Sangama Bhoomi’Most of the people in Kasaragod fluent in Tulu, Malayalam , Kannada, Beary, Konkani, Hindi, Urdu.

Important temples & festivals


This is one of the ancient Hindu temple in Kasaragod. This temple is situated on the center of Kasaragod town. The idol of lord Siva is the specialty in the temple. Poojas is being done three times daily. Important festival of the temple is used to conduct in the month of March in every year. A large number of devotee’s comes about fifty thousand are used to participate in the temple festival. ‘Prathishtas’ of lord Subramanian and seetha are also attractive points of devotees in this temple. ’Thiras’of Raktheswari and Gulikan are also be conducted.


This is Vishnu temple. Daily pooja is an important fact. This is a Kongini temple. Procession is being conducted once in three months in connection with the important days of Konginees. The annual festival is used to conduct on ‘shashti’ days during the month of December. During the festival days the idol of Vinayaka will be taken out and after procession it will be submerged.


In this temple Devi prathishta is important. The important festival is used to conduct at the time of Navarathri. A large number of devotees are used to assemble in the nine days festival. This is an ancient Hindu temple.

3. CSI Church - Pulikunnu

Important Mosque


This masjid is situated about 1kilometer away fromKasaragod railway station.This is an ancient place. It is saying that it was a Hindu temple. During the reign of Tippu Sulthan this temple is conquered by him and constructed mosque. Here Uroos Nercha is very important. Rathib Nercha is used to conduct once inanyear and Malik Uroos Nercha is used to conducted once in three years during the month of march. About fifty thousand devotees from various part of the country are used to participate on the occasion.


This is an ancient muslim devotional centre in Kasaragod district. Daily prayer is an important fact. Rathib is used to conducted once in an year. Thangal uppappa uroos very important is used to conduct once in every three years during the month of March-April. About 1lakh people assembled during the time of uroos. One of the important fact is that food packets are used to distribute among the public on the uroos day.

Chandragiri River also known as Payaswini River is an important river in Kasaragod District. It started from Western Ghats and ends at Arabian Sea. It flow from east to west and join with Arabian Sea Near at Harbor at Thalangara.

Mogral Puthur River started from Karnataka and passes through station limit.
