Student Police Cadet

The Student Police Cadet (SPC) Project is a school based initiative which seeks to mould a responsible youth for a vigilant, peaceful and value based society, for whom discipline and abiding by law is a way of life. The project is initiated by Kerala Police and in collaboration with the Departments of Education, Transport, Forest, Excise, Local Self Government, Fire & Rescue and Sports Council. Formally it is launched in August 2010.

The SPC training programme comprises various modules meant to facilitate each cadet with learning inputs to acquire desired capabilities of future citizens through a regular two year course of physical fitness training, parade training, indoor classes, workshops on law and citizenship, field visits to Government institutions and judicial offices of law enforcement, Mini projects and leadership camps.

In each school two trained teachers are acting as Community Police Officer and Additional Community Police Officer respectively for facilitating SPC training. Two Drill Instructors (Police Personnel) are detailed from the nearby police station for supporting them in physical training and parade. The District Nodal Officer (a DySP nominated) and Assistant District Nodal Officer are monitoring the district level project activities as per the instructions of State Nodal Officer.

SPC in Kasaragod District

Vide order No. 121/2010 Home(G) Student Police cadet project started in Kerala with view to develop Civic sense, aim, social commitments, social service and discipline among students. As part of this SPC Scheme inaugurated at Kasaragod District on 16.08.10 by the District Police Chief Kasaragod. Smt. Fathimath Ibrahim then Chairperson of Kasaragod municipality is presided over the function. 4 schools were selected for the start up implementation of Student Police Cadet Scheme during 2010. Presently SPC implemented in 24 Schools of this district.

Vocational HSS, Kunjathur, GHSS Chattanchal, Kelappaji Memorial VHSS, Kodakad, GHSS, Chayoth, GHSS Balanthode, St. Thomas HSS, Thomapuram, GHSS, Bethurpara, GMR School, Vellachal, St. Jude's HSS, Vellarikundu, Govt. HSS , Adoor, Chemnad Jama-ath HSS, Chemnad, Thanbeehul Islam HSS , Nayanmarmoola, Model Residential School, Paruvanadukam, NHSS Perdala, GHS Chandragiri, St:Johns HSS Palavayal(Chittarikkal ps), VPPMKSGHSS Trikkaripur(Chandera PS), SRM Govt: HSS Ramnagar, Dr.Ambedhkar.GHS Kodoth, GHSS Maloth Kasabha, GHS ADHUR.

In the above Schools, there is 15 Government schools, 5 Aided, 2 un-aided and 2 Government model residential schools.

In each school there 88 SP Cadets (44 Junior cadets of VIII class and 44 Senior cadets of IXth class) In each category there is 22 each girls and boys.

Liaison Officers :-

Concerned Inspectors of Police are the liaison officers of SPC Schools. One ASI/SCPO and one Women CPO of respective Police station were deputed as Drill instructor/Asst Drill instructor in each school. Besides teachers (1 male and 1 female) were also nominated as community police officers of each school.

District Nodal Office & Officer :-

Dy Supdt of Police CB Kasaragod is the District Nodal Officer SPC Project assited by One Asst. Nodal Officer (SI) and one Civil Police Officer. The District Nodal Office functioning at District Crime Branch Office at Kasaragod.

Participation in Programmes:-

Various programmes such as Nature camp, Quiz competition (Life of Mahatma Gandhi), SPC Exhibitions, Onam Summer camp, Christmas camps, other vacational camps, Gandhi Jayanthi Celebration, Plantation of trees in school compound, Essay Competitions, International Students day celebration (Quiz programme), Natural Camp, Republic Day parades, Cleaning of Railway Station premises, Traffic duties, various awareness classes.
